About the carnivorous Island from movie.
In the movie 'Life of PI' after PI struggles to live in the pacific with the Bengal tiger suddenly one morning Pi found himself at a Island. After spending so many days in the middle of the sea he found himself very lucky to find a Island. After spending some time he thought might be this was the end of his suffering and he can spend rest of his life at that island. He makes his bed on a tree and sleeps there, in the middle of the night he wakes up and find that there were dead fish in the fresh water where he took swim in the day time. While trying to understand the mystery he plucks a fruit from the same tree and peel it off and finds a human tooth inside that fruit and then he realize that it was an carnivorous Island. The fresh water turned into acid in night and that's when he realize he can not live there and he must leave the island in the morning.
Symbolism of carnivorous Island in movie.
By using the example of a carnivorous island in the movie Yann Martel try to tell the viewer or rather the reader of his novel that the island symbolize the idea of settling for something seemingly good when there is something much better but the price to get that betting thing is high, full of hard work and saturated with fear/doubt. I think that our lives can easily slip into that pattern of settling for something seemingly good when it can turn out to be our downfall.

There is nothing like carnivorous island or rather there are no such proofs that prove that there are carnivorous island though there are carnivorous plants. So carnivorous plants are those plants who derive most of there nutrients from living things mostly insects and arthropods. Usually they are found in places where there is less nutrition in the soil or if the soil is thin.

Seems the carnivarous island has several levels of meaning....Pi himself had become carniverous (manly at night perhaps when he doesn't have to really "see" what he must do to survive as "Richard Parker"? Then there's the issue of what happened with his mother in the boat---as Richard Parker....Pi would...??? Floating in the fresh water pools seems to be the delight of mother's womb. Then at night, the island turns toxic--memories of mother when she was nurturing....and then what happened to her in the life boat? And Pi

ReplyDeleteAll I have to say is.... I actually Believed the first story. Until watching it the second time. With questions....I googled it. The info that I have taken in. Makes much sense. And had convinced me to read the book. But the Spiritual part. The tying the string around the island. The Richard Parker not saying Goodbye. Nor eating him. This has to be a Spiritual story. A lot to take in. Much much NEEDED! Thanks to ALL!
